La La Land

Dark space, two chairs, a piano tune in the speakers,

the music that shakes the darkness in front of us.

You and me, holding each other hands in the cinemas,

as Mia and Sebastian walk down the dock singing songs.

I smell your leaning presence on my shoulders,

a movement so silent, soft and full of love.

They are dancing to what a waste of lovely night,

we are watching them, oh what a beautiful evening.

The reluctance to say how I like you and kiss you,

we continue to hold hands, playing with our fingers,

as Jazz plays in the background, heartbreak, and tears,

as Mia leaves Sebastian to her home for the night.

The tune changes, a dream sequence plays in my mind,

you take my arm, walking me out of the cinemas.

We lean to the music, as we stroll up the hill,

a city so shiny in the dark, like a palette.

Like a spring that returned through the snow,

let us walk out in this shiny cold night.

City of stars, will you be shining just for me,

take my hands, walk with me to the beach,

and let’s count stars, talk and laugh at people.

The movie is finished, and we are still in our seats,

waiting for people to leave and have the place for us,

Oh city of stars, you never shined so brightly,

as we left the place, silently, without saying anything.

The Boy Who Loved Winter

He sits there all day,

waiting for the sun to set,

and open a bottle of scotch,

while watching the snow fall.

His life is stuck in winter,

travelling around the world,

feeling the never ending cold,

which will freeze his heart.

He sits silently in new house,

dead leaves silently falling out,

looks at the moon in black clouds,

listening to dead cold winter winds.

His mind is like an icy chaos,

snow storm whispering mysteries,

of dead romance that hikes in snow,

the winds of painful dark valleys.

A thunder strikes his broken heart,

his soul trapped in a winter storm,

he is the boy who loves winter song,

a haunting sad melody by his lover.

The Girl Who Loved Summer

Waiting in the car, waiting for time to stop,

losing herself in the fifth bottle of wine,

running away from the world that loved her,

into the world that’s cold and brutal.

Oversized single heart on WhatsApp,

ring that stayed on fourth finger of left hand,

staring out of the frosted window pane,

her mind was the most dangerous place to be.

A broken melody screaming on the radio,

songs that doesn’t sound the same anymore,

a pillow that brought comfort to two heads,

a bed that sang the saddest song ever.

The mysteries deepened as the night fell,

his warm embrace now haunts her even more,

their picture now sat depressed in her bag,

a broken heart now sailing in the winter storm.

the girl who loved summer now hikes in the snow,

for the land is brutal and the sun is gone,

Standing at the edge of the cliff never to fall

but rise to the clouds where moon loves her.

The Messenger

It started a few weeks after they separated for good. The old man, who never spent a morning without a cigarette and tea, was suddenly engrossed in charting plans for the rest of his life. He never considered living a solitary life, let alone at the age of 60. He had a faint smile when he was staring out of his window, the magical rays of sun shining on his face when he suddenly realised what he wanted to do.

It all began, when the old man decided to become a messenger man, delivering important stuffs from one corner of the city to the other. He would receive requests in his email, which he would read in his flashy new iPhone and cycle all the way from his house to the top 5 addresses, pick the stuffs from the residents and deliver letters or documents or anything important to the recipients. This little adventure went good for some days. He was happy with the work that kept him busy while also keeping him fit and healthy.

Strange things started happening now. He would wake up and see three cats outside his house, which would disappear into the city the moment he stepped out. When he reached the houses to pick the stuffs, the same three cats would be there, waiting for him. He would see them everyday, morning noon and night, and then ignore them. It was when he saw the cats for three continuous weeks, he got a little suspicious. Three cats would follow him everywhere and these cats would always know about the places that he will be visiting in a day. The more he saw them, the more restless he would become.

One sunday, he woke up to find the cats were not outside his house. The sudden disappearance of cats did not bring him any comfort. He decided to ignore everything, that there is nothing to worry about and that everything is just a blank pattern. He checked his email and found one email for pick up. It was not too far from his house as well. He got dressed and peddled his way down the river. He knocked on the door to find a young bald lady greet him with a smile.

“Hello there, so what can i pick for you today?” he asked.

“Its good to finally meet you sir. I am so thrilled to have you at my door. It’s a rather warm day, isn’t it?”

He was not a man of small talks and would always insist on picking the stuff, drink a cup of water from his bottle and head back to deliver the stuff.

“I’ve been working on my summer bod, so I won’t be complaining.” he joked. There were times when he would pretend to be a funny man, because everyone loves a little humour.

“Sir, I insist you to come inside and have a glass of water. It’s so hot and I’d just take five minutes to finish the paperwork that must be delivered to the city library office.”

“I usually don’t like wasting my time.” he told her and then added “however if you insist, i don’t want to say no to a pretty lady.”

There was something attractive about this young bald lady. He figured her age to be about 30-35, dark circles indicated that she usually sleeps very late and wakes up early. There was a Malaysian Airlines boarding pass on the table. He was just scanning the room when he saw a wall frame of three cats, the exact three cats who were chasing him for the last three days. He stood up and was confused at everything that was happening. He scanned around and saw no sights of those cats, it never looked like a house where cats would live.

The young bald lady appeared and saw the confused look on the old man’s face.

“Is everything alright?” she questioned.

“Yes. Can I ask you a question?” He didn’t wait for her to respond. “Are these your cats?”

She was surprised at this question and said “No. I purchased this picture from a local shop. There was a discount sale and I love cats.”

This didn’t make much sense to him. He would not have asked the question if he never saw the cats. But now, there was a strange sense of restlessness. He wanted to tell her everything, how these cats have been following him for some time and how he didn’t see them today and yet he saw these cats in a picture. Was he overthinking? And if so, why would he see the picture here, of all places.

“Where did you buy this picture from?” he still asked, hoping to feed his curiousness.

“From a local shop, just outside the city. I brought it from Bella’s Art and Crafts supplies.”

“Ok. Thanks for that information. I am afraid I won’t be able to deliver the letter. I am so sorry about this. But if it’s not urgent, can I pick it up tomorrow?”

“I am surprised to hear that. But it’s fine. Its going to rain anyway and I would not risk getting this document wet now.”

A sudden confusion hit his face again. It was hot and sunny a while back and this was a strange home without any window.

“I usually don’t do this but I am just not feeling well.”

She didn’t want to make him uncomfortable. So she said “That’s ok. You don’t have to do this. I completely understand.”

He decided to leave the house and head straight to Bella’s Art and Craft supplies. It was not far away from this house. He was not sure about what he was searching and he had absolutely no idea what he would find over there. But there was a particular familiarity in the bald women’s appearance. It felt like he has seen her somewhere but couldn’t recall where and why.

A human mind turns into a maze when it stores thousands of memories. Recalling a moment or a face is like catching a fast train and not knowing about the destination. Old man was cycling along the river when dark clouds took over the blue sky. The strong wind was followed by a loud thunder. When the first drop of rain hit the earth, old man decided to take cover and stand under a tree. That was when he noticed the signboard which said Bella’s Art and Craft Supplies.

He quickly ran over to the other side of the road. A million thoughts reached his mind and some voices even begged him not to go inside. But he also knew that something is hidden somewhere and he ought to find out about it soon. He exhaled a heavy breath and entered inside. There was just one salesman and no customers. He looked like a Japanese or Korean, middle aged and was wearing sunglasses inside the shop. The salesman looked at old man and greeted.

“Oh hello Mr…. wait, for the sake of the voice which is telling this story, let me call you Mr. Old Man. I am sure you have a name but let’s not spoil that for everyone now, can we?”

There was a surprised look on Old Man’s face.

“Do you know me? Do I know you? I didn’t intend to come here for a reason and I don’t know what I need to know?”

“Yes you do Old Man. You are looking for answers. We are all looking for answers, for missing pieces that connects and form a universe within us.”

“I don’t understand anything. It’s been strange, for the last couple of days. I am not sure if I know what I need to tell you.” old man was shivering now. It was suddenly cold.

“That’s ok brother. You don’t need to tell me anything.”

“But how do you know me? Did you know that I am going to come here?”

“I knew you would be coming sooner or later but never anticipated it would be this early.”

“What’s your name?” old man was getting restless.

“Oh, where are my manners! Let me introduce myself to you. My name is Mister Nakata and I am the owner of this place.”

“Mr. Nakata?”

“Oh no, don’t confuse my first name with the honorific for men. My first name is Mister. M-I-S-T-E-R. So, if you were to write my name, it would be Mr. Mister Nakata. It’s funny, isn’t it?”

“I won’t say funny because it is a name after all and I am not sure if this holds anything significant in the country you come from. But yes, in this part of the world, it is definitely strange.”

“Oh no no no. You see my daddy was a drunk man who took to drinking after my mother passed away when she gave birth to me. So, he was a lazy old man who never wanted to think a lot. He would say that thinking gives him headache. So, he kept my name Mister. I am used to it and I laugh about it.”

“Hehehe” old man laughed for the first time today.

“Hehehe” Nakata laughed back.

Nakata sensed the shiver and asked him to come inside where there was a heater and a hot soup.

When they sat together and old man was comfortable, Nakata began talking.

“we are all doomed to fall and break but to do that we should also choose the best way to fall, the way where it wouldn’t hurt the most. You hear about a bearded guy throwing bomb in the trains or a white old man building walls around his country or an insane guy shooting at people who only loved each other. They think they are doing something good for the citizens of their country, but all they are doing is bringing them down so they can fall and crash.”

Nakata was confused and he did not know why he was listening to this.

“I am sorry but I don’t completely understand you. I am here because you sold some art painting to a women who was kind of bald some days back.”

“Yes. Her name is..again.. let me call her young bald lady. I did sell her the painting on 10th of October. The day you were separated from your wife.”

“How do you know all this? How do you know any of this? What is it that you are not telling me?”

“Well, I don’t want to hide anything from you my friend. You have come here looking for answers and this story is not a novel, so I don’t want to hide anything from you. You have lived 65 years of your life, trying to live a life by not celebrating it. You have never understood what it truly is to live a life. And that’s why you decided to become a messenger man because messenger boy is too young for you. You wanted to look at the river and stare at the pelicans because it gives you joy. You also wanted to help people because how else will you experience what its like to share happiness. ”

“We all live our lives without understanding it. Can you tell me that you have understood everything that is there to live?”

“No. But taking to my cats helps a lot Mr. Old Man.”

“Talking to your cats? You mean it as a figure of speech?” old man was still confused.

“No, I mean practically. I have been blessed with the power of talking to cats.” Nakata stood up to fetch a bottle of water.

“Those three cats? Are they yours?”

“The three cats that were chasing around? Yes. I sent them to you because you need to understand something important in your life and this is the best time you should know that. Bella is dead.”

“Bella? who is bella? Was that your wife?” old man sounded confused.

“No. But it’s no surprise that you don’t remember her. She did tell me that when you come to meet me and I tell you about her, you will be confused.”

“Listen Nakata, I don’t know what you are talking about and why do I need to know about her death.”

“Do you remember Brunei, 1978?” nakata asked

“Yes. I went there when I lost my job. I wanted to escape and..” it looked like old man was now able to recall something which he buried long time ago in his memories. Old man continued talking

“Bella…. She was a bar singer in one of the local night club. I remember buying her three drinks before I decided to go out with her that night. We went back to my hotel where I stayed with her for two days. We talked, sang, had sex and..” old man began to stutter.

“and then you dumped her and never called her back. That would be the short description.” Nakata finished it for him.

“Yes.. You can say that.” Old man was lost now.

“It’s ok. Everybody make mistakes and you made yours. When Margaret, your ex wife decided to leave you, you were alone and lost. And that’s when Bella passed away.”

“What happened to her?” old man grew curious.

“Well, after you dumped her, she did not lose the spirit to live. She wanted to finish her degree but because you came in her life, she became pregnant and she had to work even harder to support herself and her daughter. She did get married to a local business man who was not too great but yet he raised your daughter, before he passed away in a motor car accident. Bella gave her daughter the finest education that she can afford before she sent her to this city to pursue higher education.”

“She is here? Where?” he wanted to cry but still was holding his tears.

“I’ll tell you that Old Man. That’s exactly the reason why you have come here, isn’t it? To get answers.”

“Yes.” old man was now crying.

“Aww! Dont cry. As I told you, we have numerous way to fall down. The best way to fall down is the way where there is less pain. When Bella’s daughter purchased the picture of three cats, that was when your wife left you and that was when Bella passed away due to heart failure. Your daughter, she wanted to send the final cheque to the city library office which funded her education through loan.”

“Wait, you mean to say…”  old man was now ecstatic.

“Yes Einstein. That young bald lady is your daughter. Bella came to me and asked me to show you a path that would lead to her. I am just a messenger, just like you.”

Old man was still trying to recover from everything that was happening right now. He said “I don’t know why this has happened now. I was not lost but I was just hopeless. I gave up all hope of finding the meaning of my life with someone else. I am so sorry what happened with Bella and I am sorry that things have come to this. But I don’t know what I’d do now. I cannot go and tell her that I am her father. That would totally freak her out.”

“It’s ok. Bella just told me to inform you. I don’t know what or how you will tell her this. But if you ask me, I’d say, you have good 10 years of your life left and then another sad 10 more years of your life. And at your age, things will get even more sadder. So go out, enjoy the sun and remember that things happen for a reason.” Nakata got up and then told “I have to close my shop now but do think about this.”

They both bid each other goodbye. Old man’s cycle was just parked outside and the dark clouds were nowhere to be seen. He started walking along with his cycle when one last thought came to his mind. He turned around but Nakata was gone. He decided to come back again tomorrow. He was unable to make up his mind if he should go and talk to his daughter.

Next day, old man reached the outskirts of the city. He entered Bella’s art and craft supplies. Mister Nakata was nowhere to be seen instead there was a lady who was cleaning the shelves. The lady came up to him and asked if he was okay. The old man asked her

“I came to this shop yesterday and”

The lady interrupted, “Yesterday? Our shop was shut for five days because the owner son died. Our owner is currently in Japan attending to his son’s funeral while I am in charge of the shop now. Can I help you with anything?”

“Can you tell me what was the name of his son?”

“His name was Kazuyoshi Nakata.” the lady replied back.

The old man left the building and was confused. Nothing was making sense to him. He was trying to recollect everything that he knew. He was trying to connect the dots and arrive at a conclusion. But what would be the conclusion? What about Mister Nakata? And the cats? Is there an alternate reality apart from this reality? Is there a world with two moons where dead and living live together? Of what is important in this world and why would Bella tell him about a daughter now? He had a lot of questions and just one answer in front of him. That he has a daughter and that both should accept this reality and see where this would take them. He knows where he’s going and he don’t want to waste any time in getting there. Beethoven Symphony No. 9 was playing on the radio and his life, just like this day has just began.

Truth Be Told

There is always this hope,
the light at the end of tunnel,
but our hope is in the cave,
the never ending darkness,
the never ending peace.
From a distance it all seems chaotic,
the dark cave and a solitary life,
but come in closer and you see,
a name, an address, Mr X lives here,
and a shot down aurora that resides,
when the sky is clear in the mild winter,
if hell is living in the lava below the earth,
the heaven is not something opposite,
living in the cave, it’ll break you apart,
but will also give hope for a tomorrow,
which is glorious yet obvious.

The Bench with a View

thumb_IMG_6484_1024 2On a cold winter afternoon,
I put on my hiking shoes,
and catch a train to the place,
where ocean meets the cliffs.

I’ll never be tired,
of finding beautiful spots,
that smells of solitude and poetry,
where life is a smiling thing.

I see ships sailing in the horizon,
tides delivering kisses from land,
their memories brushed by breeze,
loved ones who are out of reach.

I watch the birds flying above me,
the sunlight nipping my scalp,
book in my hand and thoughts in head,
the birds drifting alone in the open air.

The vast blue ocean reminds me,
of your presence in the world,
the path to you is now hidden,
in the depth of your eyes.

I know that nothing can be changed,
that past is the bridge to nowhere,
I should have written a letter,
explaining my empty hopeless feeling.

Today, even when you are gone,
the light of your presence still remains,
I am hopeful of tomorrow,
when we will meet and share a silly joke.

This spot is my comfort zone,
A dot looms in the distance,
I put my headphones on,
and watch this world pass by.

A Nightmare on Henley Beach

Tuesday evening, I was lying on the beach, rock under my head,

the sun was going down and dark sky was taking over the sky,

my naked feet were in the sand, hands trying to build a volcano,

and the ocean was empty, silent waves crashing on the shore.

I began to fell asleep, with my head tilting slightly towards left,

I dreamt of half naked men, trying to fill the earth with bodies,

I was breathing fast as if I’d been running for a long time,

and in the front I saw the comet crashing as if the end was near.

The familiar nightmares, coming back to life like a broken mirror,

trying to join the fragments around me and failing as the blood spill,

I wished for this evening and nightmare to end and never come back,

If only I could have built huge walls, difficult to climb and control me.

The beach was silent, the violence in my head was over in a minute,

Shivering, I sat there by the rock, thinking about the demons in my head,

I knew it was not over, and tomorrow this nightmare will take another shape,

I built a castle out of my own grief, and filled the blank pages of my new book.

End Of Night

Walking along the pavement, listening to each other,

we will not sleep tonight, just for the joy of insomnia.

The end of night will be tougher, but we will spend the time

talking to each other, being honest and welcoming the sun.

There will be moments when we will be silent for most of the time,

but wait for me while I write you a poetry and dance in the kitchen,

boiling eggs, making bad rotis and looking for late night take away,

there wont be any dull moment, till we approach the end of night.

Love will keep us awake, love will fill the corners of our room,

the hours will be quite after our passion collides, our world will close,

when the world outside wakes up to mundane activities and rush,

the first train passes outside, while we celebrate the end of night.

Hey There Lonely Girl

I imagine you,

in your dim lit bedroom, crying alone,

just a moment before you go to sleep,

and I wish, I can be with you that time,

to wipe your tears and offer you my time.

Our universe collided when you were lost,

in a hopeless world, trying to find something,

in one hopeless moment, we found each other,

to trust and talk and maybe sing a few songs.

I wish I could move the clouds away from you,

and offer you bright sunshine that will last forever,

but you loved storms and snowfall on the rooftops,

and your love for madness ruined me forever.

Hey There Lonely Girl is a beautiful song by Eddie Holman.

Sand In My Shoes

How beautiful the earth is, when I look from here

the blue ocean stretching as far as I can see.

The million fishes in the water singing their happy song,

the golden sunset starting to spread its magic on Earth.

There are people running around me, with music plugged,

the last time I was here, i broke my leg while singing a song.

And today, the weather has been pleasant and sunny,

while I convince to finish my contract with winter in my heart.

There are two girls, holding their hands and sharing a joint,

the smoke fills the air around them, while they sit on a cliff,

One holds the hands of another, promising to fall together if they,

The love in these cliffs is magical beyond explanations.

I continue my trail, looking at the beach and the city in front,

there’a T joint and I sit by the bench, quenching my thirst

If i can just sit here, contemplate my decision, for I am lost

and I can just grow old while I still wait to decide my path.

It will soon be night, the million fishes will go to sleep together,

The sky will be dark and the sunset will be on my Instagram,

The lovers would have left, their moment belonging to horizon,

and the beautiful trail will stay here, while I follow another path.

Sand In My Shoes is also a song by Dido and is one of my favourite track.

Winter Wonderland

I admire the snow mountains,

where my heart skips a beat,

And the valley is as quiet as a mirror

of beautiful, beautiful glass.

I wake up and look outside,

There are no birds and its foggy,

I am now dressed in a tight jacket,

of dark red.

When I walk in the white forest,

My feet on the snow are bare,

Cold winds kiss my cheeks, eyes closed,

there are no foxes in this forest.

At night I open my single malt,

And stand on the cliff, looking at valley,

And i toast to this beautiful night sky,

looking at the northern lights.

Jane

It was the last night of that wicked March,

a month that only brought miseries for Jane.

Of broken relationships and evil crimes,

Jane had lost everything that she owned.

Jane was now afraid of the familiar darkness,

her life, unstable, her dreams, collapsed.

Yet, Jane found hope in a glass of wine,

and every little pieces of shattered bottle.

“The world is evil and bad” they said.

“But I’ll overcome the bad” Jane believed.

And here Jane was, waiting for the ship

that will take her anywhere but away from here.

Jane will not tell you of how we met, on this ship

and, I was asked to take an oath, to hide our story.

The land was far away and Jane was there by my side,

with her glass of Champagne and water all around us.

Jane is not sad anymore and Jane will not weep,

Jane will put darkest of her memories to sleep.

Our weekend getaway is just coming to an end,

“Let us sail the earth, just you and me” Jane said.

Hyde Park

It’s been raining all day long and I hate that its depressing,

the dull black clouds in the sky and phone with low battery.

I am sitting in Hyde Park, since morning, waiting for you,

to come and take me home so I can sleep in warmth and peace.

Today, I saw someone holding a placard with Free Hugs written,

and I hugged him without giving a care to smile for a while.

Moments later, I am now sitting in the Hyde Park, clueless,

trying to hold little pieces of what I really miss right now.

Sitting on the bench, while the cloud gives way to a blue sky,

I am waiting in the wind, while the sun kisses the trees.

I am sitting in the Hyde Park, near the path that goes two ways,

I want to change a little thing about my past and move on.

The goodbyes of the past shall stay in that moment, frozen,

where I can go back and give a hug to the memories of the warmth.

But today, I sit in the Hyde Park, hold these memories and cry,

for I know things are lost and broken beyond repair.

It’s like you brought me here, and we sat on swings taking turns,

We talked for hours and then enjoyed the silence of the breeze.

Oh today, the Hyde park is beautiful with the first sunlight of winter,

and yet, the bench is empty, with me and my songs playing in mind.

Things will never change, for things are meant to stay the way they are,

and yet, I know I’ll handle this, for life is about to change in a way.

The Hyde Park, will tell my story to birds, that will carry my message,

to a familiar place, to tell how I miss you in a winter wonderland.

Walking

Walking,

quickly as I can,

to reach a place,

or to reach a moment.

I want to walk straight,

without showing that I am drunk,

wine in my belly,

and the pain of your absence in my heart.

If only, you can hold me,

hug me tight so my bones would crush,

in the filled silence as people walk silently,

while this sick planet spins.

Universe and Naked bodies

This story is neither a confession nor a piece of fiction. This story is a reality, our alternate reality, a world we built and space we shared and decided to spend our life.

I am playing the guitar while you sit by the tree and watch me play the chords. The melody is smooth, and it brings a smile on your face. I look at your smile, and at that moment, I feel lucky to have you around, while we are in an air bubble, floating in a dark space, crossing unknown galaxies, going nowhere. In this floating world of ours, which stretches beyond this universe, your presence next to me is bigger than the milky way. In our small world, there is a tree, a bed, a bottle of wine, a little light to show us the way and a lot of darkness to lose ourselves and never be found.

When the Big Bang happened, and everything came into existence, there was a matter, and there was an anti-matter. And when these two collide, everything that is there in the universe will be destroyed. A bright light will blind us in seconds, and before we know it, all the atoms will break, the mountains will fall, volcanoes will erupt, and in few minutes, everything will vanish. Clean slate.

And while we escape, in this little space bubble of ours, we are naked. Words are sleeping next to you, the feel of your naked body against mine which invokes the same destruction as an antimatter would when it comes into contact with matter. I’ll be shattered, leaving behind a dark matter, and our hearts will burn, giving rise to new words and new fruits on branches of that tree in our bubble. We were two people, not meant for each other, with nothing in common, and yet we chose love over other stupid things.

Of course, we are alive, floating somewhere, and while you sit by that tree, listening to my melody, I look beyond the darkness to find a bright light, waiting for us, and that my dear, will either break us or make us immortal.

Cheat code

We are in a room, sitting across each other,

amid clear intentions and growing tensions.

You are drinking a fine Pinot noir

and I am drinking bourbon from my glass.

We feel the rage of fire run through us,

we are drunk, on the idea of having each other.

You knew, how badly I wanted you in my arms,

just like you desired me.

I turn towards you, stare and kiss your lips,

the taste of that fine pinot noir on my whiskey lips.

You whisper in my ears and kiss my neck,

and the night folds as we both pass out.

You see me in your dream, floating away,

to an unknown land, far away from you.

You hold my hand as we are asleep together

for we have won this night, without a cheat code.

Last Page Scribbles – Note 1

1. WATERWAYS

Someday,

I’ll bid goodbye to this land of melancholic whores

And go to a place

Where a huge tide will take me along

And I will meet new people and write new tales.

I will live a new life in a different time zone

running away from the place I call my home

to a place where I might find some love.

I will draw sketches of that mystical shore,

where white waves hit the rock and split.

I will sing a song to praise the beauty of the place

A place where heaven will fall before my eyes.

2. NIGHT BOOK

“Are you asleep?” I ask.

“No” you say.

A star was shining above,

The leaves withered around me,

And your breath was like a melody

in the still midnight.

“I could close my eyes”

“And die here in your arms” you say.

Nightwalker

Little drops of rain fell from the heaven on a strange cold midnight

Little creatures crawl near the damaged crops while working their magic

Its a strange night where the dead has risen from a long sleep

to repair the lives of their loved ones who still cling to their memories.

Here I am, holding a cigarette in temptation to smoke again

If only that way I can feel your nicotine dipped lips

There is a half empty bottle of whiskey in my Jacket and I want to drink it

to feel your whiskey tongue which knew me better than my mirror.

The lust when you smoked with me for the first time in that February cold

And you took a drag, waiting to feel the heat while we held each others hand.

Times when you only drank whiskey when you were lost and sad and angry

And yet we finished a half bottle of Jack, neat, naked, in that February cold.

<Metaphysics> You are running away from life, and I am running away from death

and slowly someday our paths will collide and we will meet again

in another universe, in some other dimension where there won’t be any logic

time will freeze, and we will smoke and finish that half bottle of jack </metaphysics>

I am dead and you are sad and whiskey is your only companion tonight.

The grave digger rings a bell, commanding the dead to return back to sleep

I gather your scattered thoughts and try to compose you into something coherent

I am staring at your naked body from the broken window while little creatures crawl.

Winds

A long step back and four steps front,

And how I waited for you there,

The lonely mountain was the place

where we were supposed to meet

You turned up late and I was gone

back to my town in the January cold.

The restless sleep and the sadness of heart

was unexplained to the hungry stomach

I lost control of space and time around me

and all I wished was a bubble wrap in space

You didn’t come and I felt lonely again,

in my small room beside the lake.

It snowed next morning in winter’s glory

the tea was hot and my heart was cold,

the minions by my bed still cheered

for there was hope that you would return,

Little rain drops poured from the clouds above,

And I thought my universe cries for me.

A kid came to my house and told you were there

plucking roses from the garden and waiting for me

Oh the poetry in the winds were calling my name

and I knew that second that I had to see you

O lovely winds, call my name again

for the year has started on a bright note

That afternoon, I rode the fastest horse to claim you

To bring you in my arms and proclaim my love,

when I reached your town you were there, waiting

for you knew I would come and take you away,

And so we rode on the road never travelled

and promised to start a new life in an untouched land..

Apocalypse

Ok. So where am I? Ok, The desert. The desert is calm for some reason and the sun is rising again for the millionth time. I was brought here some days before when the dark clouds disappeared and all that was left of sky was an open invitation for an unknown object to hit this earth. This is not the reality I expected when they told me I was being sent to prepare for my final days. Anyways, this is my reality until the apocalypse hit the earth in ten days. The humans are dying in the cities and I am here, trying to survive ten more days till this world is just an empty space in the map of our universe. A distant nebula has exploded and the supernova will impact earth. In short, the world ends in ten days.

Now the history, as we know it, is being told to us only through the voices of books. The ancient renaissance helped a great deal in saving the ancient literature. And here I am in this desert holding a copy of “The Swerve” which I just brought before a small meteor hit the Bangalore city with such vital force that now all that’s left of that city is the dust from collision. All this just before these learned and wise elders decided to teleport me to this desert by cheating the laws of time and space.

The swerve is story of Poggio Bracciolini who made a great discovery. In an abbey in Germany he came across a manuscript of a long-lost classical poem. The discovery of that poem was also the start of renaissance. The subject in that poem believed that the gods did not concern themselves with mortal affairs. He didn’t create this universe, which was composed of particles as we see in the space today. These atoms that formed the universe moved frequently and randomly through a void. And they would from a direct course, and strike against each other. Life is one result of this collision, as atoms assemble themselves into forms that enable us to see and breathe. At some point or the other, our atoms will break free and move on in their eternal course through the void. Which means that there is no afterlife, no reward for being nice or bad. That the ideas of heaven and inferno is just man made. As a result human beings should not fear death at all. And yet as this universe is shrinking to death I see humans praying everywhere. If only all this foolish earthlings could understand this poem. I am lost in this desert and with this book in my hand, I don’t fear death. Death is just the road to awe. I am only thankful that I get to live my life now with nothing but just with literature by my side. Literature that saved me when I was alone. The very book that explained to me not to fear this apocalypse but to just embrace it. Well I guess that these atoms have decided to break free and travel through the void to form another universe.

I have decided to wrap this book and keep it safe. Even if this universe is lost, I hope this book can travel trough all voids of space and time and reach the hands of readers from the other side of this galaxy. I can feel another person through this book and that feeling is much better than I have ever felt. My mind is so darkened from this feeling, my soul and body is just terraforming now in an imaginative world and that part of me is much better than reality. The reality that will be history in next ten days. If only books could live forever. Yes, if only….
